Brunhilda the Barbarian by JohnRaptor Brunhilda the Barbarian by JohnRaptor
Brunhilda the Barbarian, scourge of the northern shores, an original character inspired by partly by Red Sonja, one of my favorite comic book characters, and partly by Hellga a.k.a. Robin Coleman, one of the American Gladiators from that show's latest incarnation.

The guy on the left with the axe is her second in command Johan the Small (but don't let the name fool you. He's actually quite big).

Ink & digital (Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator)
11x14 on bristol board

Thanks to :icondevilishlysweetplus: a.k.a. :iconstock-dsp: for modeling for this.

This is a great example a woman who has the body that goes along with the ability kicking ass! I love how she is still pretty and sexy with a large from! Totally proving the comic ideal wrong. :)

Thanks! It's common to see male vikings and other medieval warriors portrayed as hefty folks, but you don't often see women warriors shown that way (and you should!).

So, does she just look like the biggest person in the shot because she's the one that is nearest to the camera angle, or is she really the biggest person in the group.

It's just a perspective thing.

Ok. Just curious. It would be kinda cool if she was that way though, since she's like a viking an all.

Well she is big and tall, but not a giant.

how tall, say, 6'6ft?

More like 5'10" or 5'11". Tall for a woman, REALLY tall for a medieval woman.

You've really got a knack for this style, I can see why you want to start selling them at conventions :)

Well, I've been showing in convention art shows for the past couple years and haven't sold a dang thing (a few prints about three years ago was my last convention sale). At this point I've pretty much given up on conventions.

I dunno what I'm doing wrong. I see a lot of stuff sell that quite frankly isn't nearly as good as mine technically (and I'm hard on myself). For some reason, my stuff just doesn't click with the convention crowd. Oh well. Their loss. I'm exploring other commercial options.

I've gotten a couple Kid's Choice Awards, though, which is nice.

Perhaps its the content...if you're going to sci-fi conventions, guys seem to want to see superhero chicks with huge hooters wearing next to nothing. I could be wrong, but thats what they seem to like >_>
